Master Teachers of New Consortium

One of the greatest strengths of the charter school movement is the autonomy this social paradigm allows numerous schools. This autonomy results in tremendously useful innovations for everyone in education. This autonomy has also given rise to an increase in community ownership.

The Consortium is completely aligned with this focus on innovation building. Particularly, our school places its largest emphasis on innovating through the selection of excellent, world-class teachers. Our teachers are developed into strong administrators and powerful leaders. Our teachers are professionally developed into individuals that can educate young people in a placard of subject areas. And, our teachers are given the true freedom to determine the methods they need to employ to educate students.

Master teachers act as executives. They develop programming for students. They determine what curriculum materials are best suited to increase student performance. Yet, these Master Teachers do not make these decisions in a vacuum. They work closely with their Grade Level Governance Board (boards composed primarily of the parents whose children are in the teachers classroom) which are responsible for overseeing the appropriateness of the choices made by the Master Teacher for its grade.

  • The specific responsibilities of our Master Teachers are: ·
  • Provide a quality, enriched, and powerful curriculum
  • Provide continual assessment of student progress and maintain records
  • Continually evaluate classroom performance to meet the changing needs of students
  • Provide an effective room environment which reflects and facilitates the academic program
  • Continue to work on professional growth
  • Actively strive for continuous and open communication with parents
  • Participate in on-going peer evaluations
  • Keep attendance records and update District information system with respect to his or her grade level class
  • Develop a grade level budget for approval by Grade Level Governance Board
  • Maintain student discipline
  • Participate in reports and other duties to ensure school’s compliance with district requirements
